In recent years, distracted driving has become one of the biggest threats on the road. In 2015, it was responsible for over 900,000 accidents and 3,000 deaths.
There are three types of distracted driving. You may be familiar with visually distracted driving, which happens when someone is checking a map or reading a text message, but distracted driving can also be manual, such as when someone lets go of the steering wheel to multitask. Distracted driving can even be cognitive, which is when a driver has something else on their mind other than driving.
State governments have put several laws in place around the United States to curb distracted driving, but you can prevent distracted driving yourself by doing such simple activities as getting a good night’s sleep before driving and simply avoiding cell phones while on the road.
