Everyone talks about the dangers of distracted driving, but no one really talks about just how dangerous it actually is. Distracted driving is responsible for nine deaths and about 1000 injuries each day in the United States, and it is the number-one killer of teenagers in America.
Mobile phones have made distracted driving even more of a threat than in years past and, as a result, governments have been starting to pass laws about texting while driving. It’s illegal in 38 states and Washington D.C. The other states are still working on legislation that will regulate the use of cell phones while driving.
You can do a lot to cut down on distracted driving, including simply keeping your eyes and ears focused on the road. However, you can also invest in a wireless headset, use artificial intelligence apps like Apple’s Siri if you need your smartphone to make a call, and even turn off your phone for the duration of the trip. You should also keep an eye out for other distracted drivers.
At best, driving distracted only increases the likelihood you will be involved in an accident. At worst, you could end up killing someone or being killed yourself. For more information about driving distracted and how to prevent it, read the following infographic.
